West Islip Public Library has added some brand new amenities.
Last month, renovations were completed at 3 Higbie Lane that created a new reading room and meeting room.
The project, which took nearly three years to complete, was designed to help modernize the public facility.
“Nowadays charging stations are very valuable,” said the project’s architect, Paul Cataldo of Paul Cataldo Architecture and Planning. “Everywhere you sit in the reading room, there is someplace to plug in.”
In addition to the outlets, the new reading room has an electric fireplace, nice lighting and new furniture.
The creation of a meeting room was also a big need for the library, says Cataldo.
To make the room, Cataldo closed off the periodical area, which was used to hold magazines.
“We made an entirely new space with new air conditioning, new lighting, and Smart-screen TV,” said Cataldo. “The room now has a wide variety of uses.”
