Thousands of people flocked to Tanner Park Beach for the opening weekend of the first-ever Winter on the Bay festival series.

The event, which is running on the two weekends leading up to Christmas, is organized by Festivals on the Bay and sponsored by Katch Restaurant.

Some Winter on the Bay highlights include the ice skating rink, a heated indoor holiday market, and the “foodie trail,” which features a line of several food trucks.

There’s also holiday decorations, visits by Santa Claus, and ice sculptor displays.

“We had an incredible time at Winter On The Bay. As a first-year event we didn’t know what to expect,” said event organizer Katch Janowsky. “But many people showed up this weekend — even on a rainy Sunday!”

According to Festivals on the Bay, around 3,000 tickets were purchased for the event over its first three days.

One of the festival’s biggest successes was the tented holiday market, which can withstand 70 MPH winds and holds between 30 to 40 local vendors.

“Our Holiday Market was buzzing and we saw people walk out with bags of gifts and crafts,” said Fernandez.

And there was plenty of partying for the adults, too.

“Each night ended with an adult Ugly Sweater Party with DJ Beso rocking the house at  Jimbo’s bar,” said Fernandez. “The cocktails were warm and wintery and we had a blast serving them.

“We’re pumped for next weekend and it’s looking like all three days will be sunny also!”
