The Town of Babylon has a new, brighter look to it.

On Wednesday, Feb. 11, Babylon Town Supervisor Rich Schaffer announced 13,000 cost-saving LED street lights were installed throughout the town. The new fixtures will lower energy bills and maintenance costs saving the town $20 million over the next 20 years, according to Schaffer.

“These new bulbs only need to be replaced every 20 years,” said Schaffer during a press announcement at Babylon Town’s Public Works–Street Lighting Division building. “We will be saving hundreds of thousands of dollars a year in labor and parts.”

In addition to its cost savings, Schaffer believes adding brighter lights will help deter crime while helping to prevent vehicular accidents.

“Today’s announcement is all about savings – saving money, saving energy and saving lives,” said Schaffer.
