It’s all about comfortable stylish footwear and old-school customer service at this newly opened retailer in Babylon Village.
Last month, Sole Provisions held a grand opening at 101 Deer Park Avenue, the space that previously held Murph’s Sports Shack.
The operators of the area’s new shoe store pride themselves on guiding customers throughout the entire shoe-shopping experience.
“We want to educate the consumer,” said the company’s general manager, Steven Rueda. “We sit down with you, measure your feet… it’s very intimate.”
Rueda, a Mount Sinai resident, has been in the shoe game for a long time, having been groomed by his father and grandfather, who both owned a custom orthopedic store in Queens called Turnpike Comfort Footwear.
“I know all the biomechanics of the foot and ankle,” said Rueda, who is trained in pedorthics.
When Rueda meets costumers, he examines their needs and gives his best recommendations.
“We’re very specialized,” he explained. “All of our footwear has some sort of comfort feature whether its an orthotic or arch support.”
“[Vionics] are designed by a podiatrist,” said Rueda. “They are great for your health and they are very fashionable, too.”
While the store’s stock is primarily women-based, there is a selection of business-casual shoes and running sneakers for men.
“Our store’s selection is massive,” said the general manager. “It is as if you are shopping at one of the big box stores, but with more focus on one-on-one service.”
In addition to the Babylon store, Sole Provisions — which was founded in 1997 — has another location in Wading River and a showroom in Ronkonkoma.
