Babylon Village is looking like a winter wonderland thanks to the help of over 1,000 volunteers.
On Sunday, the Babylon Beautification Society in collaboration with the Village of Babylon hosted its annual Holiday Lampost Decorating.
The nonprofit supplies the wreaths and ribbons, and the locals decorate their nearby lamposts.
This year, over 500 street lights were adorned with holiday charm.
“It really a special event about community, volunteerism and it’s a way Babylon Village families usher in the holiday season,” said Frank Petruzzo of the Babylon Beautification Society.
One of the area’s biggest groups to decorate is headed by Babylon resident Kristin Costigan. She leads about 50 volunteers — 15 families in total — in decorating the lights on the south side of Montauk Highway, Fire Island Avenue east to Willow Street.
“They meet up in front of Bunger Surf Shop to get their materials and they all decorate their assigned lampposts,” said Petruzzo. “They also do breakfast and drinks and all the kids play together.”
