Outdoor ice skating, roasting s’mores, and sipping hot cocoa are all in the plans for Babylon Village’s first Winterfest set for Sunday, Feb. 16.
The event, which happens at Argyle Park, is co-sponsored by the Village of Babylon, the Babylon Beautification Society, the Babylon Village Chamber of Commerce, and Babylon Public Library.
The day’s activities will run from noon to 4 p.m.
Ice skating and skate rentals are free and open to the public. A 24 x 60-foot rink will be set up near the Argyle playground parking lot. A changing area will be available too.
The Babylon Beautification Society will be providing complimentary hot cocoa and s’mores.
Torta Fina will be providing “Snow Flake Cookies” shaped cookies, while Francesco’s donated mac and cheese for the event. Any donations received from the food will benefit the Argyle Falls Restoration Project — there will also be a booth set up to promote the effort.
The village’s library is providing free family photos with its green screen and “Warming Up Winterfest” theme. There will also be family-friendly lawn games provided by the Babylon Public Library.
Music will be playing throughout the afternoon.
“We want this to be a fun winter event for families when there’s not much else going on,” said Kelly Peckholdt, head of the chamber. “It’s at the start of the winter break for schools, and this is a great thing for families who aren’t traveling that week to do and get the kids out of the house.”
Event organizers advise parking at the Argyle Park Gazebo area, or at the municipal lots in the downtown area.
